This activity was initiated by the ECD Committee in Salmon Arm. All child care centres and after school programs were contacted to participate. The activity targeted 0-6 year olds and the basis of the magical tree was on the National Day of the Child. The theme was Basic Needs and Wants - to help children begin to think about the difference between things they want and things they need. In total, 19 child care centres with 330 children participated in this activity. Posters were 2 feet by 3 feet. The child care centres had full creative control on what to put on their tree - colours, pictures, words etc. The ECD Coordinator collected all of the trees and they are now on display in the Piccadilly Mall in Salmon Arm.

The Lakeshore News put an article in the paper written by the ECD Coordinator. All of the participating child care centres received a package of goodies, information, and books for their centres. We also distributed 300 Learning to Play and Playing to Learn booklets to parents. The initiative had some businesses get on board to promote the Magical Trees by giving donations towards the goody bags and money towards laminating the posters. All of the child care centres will get their poster back for their centres. This was a good awareness-raising initiative for the community at large about Children's Rights. A great deal of information was collected from these children.

Lots of fun! The child care providers were happy to be involved and did a great job facilitating the great outcomes!!
